Ian Payne is a television presenter.

Payne was from Ipswich originally but studied sport at Newcastle University and did a placement with TV Sport and Leisure (TSL). He then joined ITV Tyne Tees in 1992 - for work experience whilst working on a degree in journalism. He then became a sports assistant, later becoming their senior sports presenter.[1]
On 25 September 2006, Payne was promoted to a newscaster on the now defunct South edition North East Tonight, he co-presents the magazine news programme with Pam Royle.[1]
In September 2008, Payne presented ITV News' 2008 Summer Paralympics coverage, based in China.
Since 25 February 2009, he has been the main co-presenter of North East Tonight and Lookaround, alongside Pam Royle.[2] Following the merger of ITV Tyne Tees and ITV Border - creating ITV Tyne Tees & Border.
In 2008 Ian was honoured by Northumbria University for ‘Distinguished Services to Sport’. In 2009 he was named ‘Best Presenter’ by the Royal Television Society North East and Cumbria.[1] In 2011 he was awarded Best Father of the year award by his son Joseph.
In an interview Payne said the aspect of his job he enjoys the most is current affairs, sport and the passion he has for the North East.[3]
